by

On August 3, 2017, Gemco received the award to construct an underground storm water detention facility, storm trunk sewer, and playfield in the Willoughby area of Langley.  The project, designed by McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd., is valued at nearly $9.0 million.

The detention facility consists of rows of Stormtech MC-3500 HDPE plastic arches connected with a manifold.  There are over 3300 individual arch chambers, covering an area of 17,000 m².  The construction requires nearly 75,000 m³ of excavation and placement of 26,000 tonnes of clear crushed gravel.

The project also includes installation of 700 m of large diameter storm sewer in offsite roadways, and 200 m of sanitary sewer.

Work is expected to start in late August, 2017, and be completed by June, 2018.
